2 Issues, both having to do with health

First, Cameron is very sick. On Monday he began with vomitting, which later that day also morphed to include diarrhea. Then Tuesday night he developed sporadic fevers and a flemmy cough. Today and yesterday he spends his days laying around on the floor where ever he can find a comfy looking spot, and sometimes even when it isn't comfy. It's very sad. Today he has developed a runny nose, the REALLY runny kind that every 5 minutes it's on his lips. And note, he is still vomitting a couple of times every day. He has no appetite and when he does eat, it doesn't seem to have the best luck staying down.

I went to the doctor yesterday and she said to make sure he's comfy and hidrated but didn't seem too worried. But this is day 4 with hardly any calories! I feel like I'm watching my baby wither away! He is normally so active and all he does is sleep and lay on the floor. When he tries to walk he must not have the strength because he falls over after one step. Sad! Right now he's watching "Finding Nemo" while he lays on pillows on the floor. Definitely not typical of little Cam Cam. I keep thinking "Today must be the day he gets better." Not yet.

The second thing I was thinking. I think it would be a good idea if once my kids are in school I went back to school to get a Nurse Practicioner degree. I looked it up and it's a combo of an RN and then a masters degree. So it would be about 4 to 6 more years of school. But I am worried about the direction the US health system is headed and I figure one way to be sure my family and I always have good health care and advice is to take matters into my own hands. Not to mention it would always be very useful service to others.

My experience with NPs are good ones too; they seem to be able to give the same advice and do the same exams and develop the same diagnosis as MDs, they just can't do surgury. An NP circumcized Cam, saw him yesterday, an NP saw me first for my hernias, found them and diagnosed them. In some states they can admit patients to hospitals and open their own clinics. And they get to do more "doctor like" things than RNs, like interact one on one with patients.

The field is really opening up and is a great idea because MDs are expensive and there sometimes seems like not enough to go around. And let's admit it, wouldn't it be nice to have a lower doctor bill and less waiting time to go to your Dr.'s office and see the NP for something not-too-major? That way MDs can concentrate on specialized things.

Haha, sounds like Greg's plan to be a PA. Plus if you're an NP or PA you don't pay malpractice insurance. Pretty sweet! I'm sorry Cameron is so sick, but, if you makes you feel any better you are the 3rd blog I read this week about a baby having the exact same symptoms. Something awful is going around!

Great idea. I'm glad Mike's going to be a doctor for that exact reason. Besides...that way he can do all the schooling for it and I don't have to :)

Just make sure that you don't go seeing a dopey NP like the one who diagnosed Caleb's C-diff. It was a nightmare dealing with him!
